Pixform - Automatic Surface Creation From 3D Scan Data

Pixform processes laser scan data from the LPX-250into a usable CAD file. Laser scan data needs to be 'cleaned' and converted into a format usable by CAD programs such as Rhinoceros and Solidworks.

Roland's Pixform is a major software package. Like most Roland products, it is bringing high end functionality to a wider audience by providing value for money. With features that are usually in software packages in the $20,000 to $30,000 range, Roland has brought the cost of ownership down by including PixForm with the LPX-250 scanner as standard. A scanner and software for well under the price of top end software alone.

Hole filling
Pixform can edit 3D scan files, including filling holes.

Easy to use
The step by step guide included with the software will get you started quickly. Manipulating laser scan data has often been regarded as a difficult task that requires experience and skill. In Roland's tradition, they have provided a user friendly interface that allows first time users to process laser scan data with ease.

Saving you time
Pixform allows users to export a true NURBS surface from a cleaned scan file in a single button click. This is important for those using engineering style CAD programs such as Pro-Engineer, Solidworks and Rhino. This NURBS surface is usually used as a reference to create cross section curves and feature lines to accurately define a wireframe model. The wireframe model is then used to create the final production ready CAD file.

The advantage of using scan data as a reference file is that it is much faster and more accurate overall than using rulers and calipers alone. For freeform shapes that have been handmade and approved by clients, scanning provides you with the complete surface definition in a 3D computer model. Now you can build digital models with confidence that the results will capture the look and feel of the handmade model.

Compatibility
Only files from Roland scanners can be used in Pixform. Operating systems supported include Windows® 95/98/Me/NT® 4.0/2000/XP.
