CASE STUDY - ROLAND PICZA LPX-250 Laser Scanner

L'Oreal logo

L'Oreal, the French cosmetic and personal care product company, has installed a Roland Picza LPX-250 3D laser scanner.

Method of Use
The packaging design team create drawings of packaging ideas and hand made models are created. The L'Oreal team then uses the Roland Picza LPX-250 laser scanner to scan the hand made models into the computer.

Using Pixform, the scan files are exported as IGES surface models into Rhino and Solidworks for final CAD modeling.

The files are then exported and sent to their packaging suppliers for tooling development.

Advantages of Roland

1. Design development time is reduced as modification of the design can be done entirely in-house between the design and marketing departments. Previously, L'Oreal had to send the hand made models to their packaging suppliers for 3D modeling. This often resulted in changes to the 3D model, adding costs and time to the packaging development.

2. Time to market is faster because decision making is faster.
